Before any testing, we talk. It's a no-cost, no-pressure call to understand what's going on and figure out whether an evaluation is the right next step — and which one.
Reach out
A short call or message about what's going on. No paperwork, no commitment.
Talk it through
We listen, answer your questions, and help you decide whether an assessment makes sense — and which service fits.
Plan together
If it's a fit, we schedule. If another path serves you better, we'll point you toward it.
The report is the beginning, not the end
Testing answers the question you came in with. What you do next is where it pays off — and we stay involved.
Feedback session
A two-hour conversation walking through results, strengths, challenges, and recommendations in plain language.
A report you own
A comprehensive written report, yours to keep and share with school, work, or other providers.
School & provider coordination
We talk with teachers, therapists, and physicians so everyone is working from the same picture.
Therapy & PCIT
Ongoing, evidence-based support when treatment is the right next step for your child or family.
Parent consultation
Practical guidance for the day-to-day — strategies for home, school meetings, and the hard moments.
Re-evaluation
Updated testing down the road as your child grows or circumstances change.
A vague concern is enough. Earlier is easier — we evaluate children as young as 15 months — and adults who spent years wondering are some of the people we help most. If we're not the right fit, we'll help you find who is.

Frequently asked questions
I don't know which service my child needs. What should I do?
Start with a free consultation. We'll talk through what you're seeing and point you to the right evaluation or service — you don't have to sort it out on your own first.
What ages do you work with?
We work mainly with children, starting as young as 15 months, and Dr. Brinkley also sees teens and adults depending on the service. Each service page lists its age range.
Do you take insurance, and what does an evaluation cost?
We are an out-of-network provider and provide detailed superbills you can submit for potential reimbursement. We'll go over fees and insurance at your free consultation, so you know what to expect before anything is scheduled.
Where are you located, and which areas do you serve?
We're at 5006 Monument Avenue (Suite B), Richmond, VA 23230, in the Near West End near Willow Lawn, with free parking. We see families from across the Richmond region, including Henrico, Chesterfield, and Hanover. Call 804-205-7624 or email mbrinkley@brinkleypsychology.com.
How long does the process take?
It depends on the service and your child's needs. We'll lay out the timeline at your consultation so there are no surprises.
