We provide services for individuals across the lifespan. This includes developmental assessments, autism and ADHD diagnostic testing, and psychoeducational assessments (which look at learning and school needs). We also run small group programs, like Unstuck and On Target, that help kids build flexibility, problem-solving, and social skills. Learn more about the different assessments and therapy options here.
This is a fun, hands-on group program that helps kids learn how to be flexible, handle changes, and stay on track with goals. It’s especially helpful for children who get “stuck” or frustrated when things don’t go as planned. Learn more about this group here.
A developmental assessment gives us a big-picture look at your child’s strengths and areas where they might need extra support. We look at things like language, thinking skills, social skills, and motor development. This helps families better understand how their child is growing and what might be most helpful at home or school. Learn more about the different assessment processes here.
• A psychoeducational assessment focuses on how your child learns. It looks at academic skills, memory, attention, and problem-solving, and can guide school planning.
• A diagnostic assessment helps us determine whether your child meets criteria for conditions such as autism or ADHD.
Sometimes these overlap, and we’ll talk with you about which option is the best fit. Learn more about the different assessment processes here.
We are an out-of-network provider and do not bill insurance directly. However, we provide detailed superbills that you can submit to your insurance company for potential out-of-network reimbursement.
Every plan is different. We recommend contacting your insurance provider and asking about coverage for out-of-network psychological testing or therapy. Be sure to ask if you need pre-authorization for assessments or services.
Our rates vary depending on the type of assessment or program. Because every child’s needs are unique, we’ll go over costs in detail during your initial consultation. This way, you’ll know exactly what to expect before moving forward.
The length varies depending on the type of assessment. Most evaluations require multiple appointments, including testing sessions, school observations, parent/guardian interviews, and a feedback session to review results and recommendations. On average, the full process can take several weeks up to a couple of months from start to finish. Learn more about the different assessment processes here.
You can begin by contacting our office via phone, email, or online to schedule an intake consultation. We’ll guide you through the process of gathering records, completing questionnaires, and setting up the first appointment.
Yes. Some parts of our services, such as parent consultations and feedback sessions, can be done through secure telehealth. In-person visits are usually best for testing, but we’ll work with you to make a plan that’s convenient and effective for your family. Learn more about the different assessment processes here.
Our office is located near the Willow Lawn Shopping Center in the city of Richmond. Families typically come to us from across the RVA and surrounding area. Some assessments include observations of children in their school (or other comfortable setting). If you’re unsure whether we can help based on where you live, reach out—we’ll be glad to talk through options, including telehealth.
Yes. We know kids do best when the adults in their lives work together as a team. With your permission, we coordinate with the people who know your child best, including teachers and other therapists to make sure we are getting a complete picture of their unique profile. We’re also happy to share results and recommendations with teachers, pediatricians, therapists, or other providers with your permission.
Wait times vary depending on the type of service. We do our best to schedule families as quickly as possible. If you’d like to know our current availability, please contact us directly.
It will be helpful to send any past evaluations, school reports, IEPs/504 plans, or medical records for review before the first session. Don’t worry if you don’t have everything—just send what you can, and we’ll guide you through the rest.
If scheduling for your child, we encourage discussing it in age-friendly ways. For younger kids, you can tell them they will sit at a table to do different “brain games” like block puzzles and matching. Then they get to play with toys at the end. If they are nervous about “doctor’s office” you can refer to the clinicians more like teachers (Mr. or Ms. X) or explain that they are “play doctors” with no shots! For older kids, you can explain that they will do different activities to help understand how they learn or solve problems, which can help make school easier.
