Unstuck and On Target® is a 12-week, evidence-based program aimed at helping children build flexibility skills. The program is designed for students ages 8–11 who are on grade level academically, highly verbal, and able to learn in a verbal-based instructional setting. It can be helpful for children with autism, ADHD, or any child who tends to get “stuck” or have big feelings when things don’t go their way.

This program features guided group sessions for both children and parents, allowing them to learn and practice strategies together to support skill use across settings. In the child group, we cover topics like compromising with others, distinguishing a “big deal” from a “little deal,” regulating our emotions, and how to make Plan B’s when Plan A doesn’t work. We cover these topics through instruction but also with videos, worksheets, and interactive activities like crafts and an obstacle course. While children take part in their group, parents engage in their own group sessions that combine lectures, role-playing, clinical and peer support, and individual goal setting, equipping them to use Unstuck and On Target® strategies in daily life, from morning routines to homework time.

Creating group cohorts that are well-matched in terms of strengths and needs is pivotal for the most effective experience. Interested families will schedule a free phone intake to discuss their goals and learn more about the program. If we feel like your family may be a good fit for an upcoming cohort and you are interested in the program, we will schedule a 1-hour intake in the office that both the participating parent(s) and child must attend to ensure we have the right fit.

In addition to participating in this group, parents can learn more through online courses which can be found on the Unstuck and On Target website https://www.unstuckontarget.com/product/
