Autism and ADHD can be overlooked in some young children, as neurodivergence presents differently especially in women and those with high cognitive abilities. In these evaluations, our goal is to help you learn more about yourself, especially if you’ve felt that things like social interactions (e.g., small talk, group events), executive functioning (e.g., starting tasks, organizing), adaptive skills (e.g., cleaning; keeping up in school or keeping a job), or overall processing (e.g., needing more concrete communication, sensory sensitivity) have felt different or more difficult for you than for others. Testing includes gold standard assessments for Autism and/or ADHD depending on your diagnostic questions.

  • Clinical interview with the adult (Typically over video chat). We want to hear about how you  experience the social world and/or about how you may struggle with attention, body regulation, and executive functioning. We will focus on your current experiences as well as your memories from childhood.

  • Clinical interview with a parent or other close person (Typically over video chat). In order to diagnose these disorders, it’s important to confirm that your experience of these differences have been present since childhood or at least over time. Ideally, I would interview a parent to assess their observations of you as a young child. If a parent is not available, a sibling, spouse, or long-term friend could be consulted instead.

  • Client and close-person rating scales. We will send 2-4 rating scales over email to get quantitative data on the client’s and their loved one’s perspectives on things like social skills, adaptive skills, attention and executive functioning, and emotional and behavioral functioning.

  • 2-5 hours of testing in office. The amount of testing depends on the diagnostic questions (i.e., both ASD and ADHD or just one). Testing includes further interview as well as gold standard tests for these diagnoses.

  • A 2-hour feedback session (Typically over video chat). We spend time synthesizing all the data points from the pieces listed above and we review the results. This includes the data from the direct testing, strengths, areas of challenge, diagnoses if relevant, and recommendations.

  • A comprehensive report. We document all pieces of the evaluation in a long report that can be shared with school, providers, employers, and/or anyone in the your life who may find it helpful. You are in charge of this report and who to send it to.
